Salam all! =D
Bit tired today! huhu~ so many work i must done and be continue tomorrow.
I Don't Care: Let’s talk about sex!
YUP, it may sound distasteful but, why not?
After all, the subject, or anything that relates to it, has been in the headlines of all newspapers in the country for the past weeks.
Moreover, it’s somewhat normal for men, like me, to think about sex 35 per cent of our waking hours. A study revealed so, I read somewhere. And, feel free to take it as a disclaimer.
Recently, I was amused by a Malay newspaper report, dated July 30, on the circulation of a video clip showing two Form Two students having oral sex. It happened in the surau of a school in Sabah and the students were still in their school uniform, with their school badge visibly seen on the girl’s headscarf.
Double whammy, here. The act was recorded by the boy, using his handphone.
Three days before the report, the Dewan Negara was told that 21 cases of students delivering babies out of wedlock had been detected by the Education Ministry since 2006.
Twelve of the cases, recorded by Education Departments, schools and Social Welfare Departments, involved students from rural schools and the rest from urban areas. Twenty cases were consensual.
The figure, I strongly believe, is a fraction of what is happening out there.
It was explained further that it happened due to curiosity to try out sex and too much freedom given by families, and parents should be more alert. How apt and I’ll explain it later.
During the same week, there were two reports, one on a baby girl abandoned outside a shop in Nibong Tebal and the other, a foetus, believed to be one-month-old, found in a plastic bag among piles of trash in the city. So sad.
Now the interesting part. Last week, my heart missed a beat when my Tahun Dua boy coyly told me that he had gone into a porn site. Please don’t ask me about his mother’s reaction.
But, we took the issue instantly and talked to him (we always talk, anyway) and got to know that the site address was given to him by a senior. My boy, I was told, was among those playing and talking "nonsense" together after school until their conversation went into, yes, sex.
He even fingered the senior to me at school.
Were we worried? Yes, we were but we are no longer now. For it has come to our realisation that our boy did not keep it from us, that he trusts us, believes in us and shares with us. Strong family foundation? I do hope so. We are going to talk some more, as always.
Interestingly, we were not alone in dealing with giving proper explanation about sex. A family member was recently forced to explain what "rape" was all about to his 10-year-old boy.
See, kids read newspapers and watch news on the tube, and they are curious. Weren’t we when we were young like them?
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was correct when he said that the ease of access to pornographic materials on the Internet was the reason for the rise in sexual crimes in Malaysia. Consensual sex is not a crime, per se, but if it involves minors, it is not right.
Tun was also quoted as saying that the country had made a promise not to censor the Internet but he had second thoughts now as it should be applied to pornography. We do not know whether it will happen at all. But, what do we do in the meantime?
In a report in an English daily, Datuk Dr Raj Abdul Karim, former regional director of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) for East and South-East Asia and Oceania Region, had said that the situation was alarming and dangerous as the age of initiation for sex in the country was getting younger with children as young as 12 already experimenting with sex.
Malaysian children definitely needed the sex education module, Reproductive and Social Health Education, Dr Raj added.
Sadly, in Malaysia, everything gets politicised, as pointed out by the report, referring to resistance from some factions towards the implementation of the module. The module, initiated last year following media reports of rampant cases of baby-dumping and free sex among teenagers, is still a pilot project at selected schools in five States.
Actually, I don’t care how long more they want to "discuss" whether sex education should be introduced in schools, for my wife and I have already started it in our home.
Recently, there was a suggestion to set up a laboratory under the National Key Result Area (NKRA) to effectively address the issue of baby-dumping. They can continue debating until the cows come home while the kids are already talking about sex in the school compound.
Like we did before, during our time, no?
( mana-mana yang MERAH tu bagi aku adalah PENTING!)
Thanks to Mr.MMZ that give permission to re-publish into my blog. Hope you guys got some information about this article =) salam!
